Be on trend Autumn 2010 / Winter 2011

Sharp angles that typified 80s power dressing are replaced with soft tailored lines says fashion forecaster WGSN. Look out for pretty detailing, for example on waistcoats, country style knits and a peasant feel. Belts will be a key feature on knitted dresses and cardis, while other knitwear goes long. Thank heavens too – with so many trousers being hipsters the longer sweaters should allow us to hide fleshy middles and be decent again.

WGSN also predict that the sensible protective coats will be big this Winter. As will a dark feminine gothic look, which will be evident in party wear with an edge. Make sure you grab some of our shoelery for more edge – it’s perfect for this look.

Alongside dark tones, bright cobalt blue and raspberry red lead a strong bold colouring but those who prefer classic neutrals can go for almond or modern urban whites. Metallics will remain on the scene and a gold, silver, pewter or bronze belt is a great way to be on trend.

Colour blocking is the big thing for Autumn 2009 / Winter 2010 i.e. various bold swathes of colour particularly in women accessories. The perfect time to be bold with your colour choices for belts, bags and shoes. Alternatively tie the crazy colour combinations together with all black accessories.

Super wide belts is what we’ve been seeing mainly on the catwalk for Autumn Winter 09/10, particularly from the big Italian fashion houses who after all understand leather and immaculate dressing better than any designer. Lines are more sombre as is traditional with periods of economic downturn, as people make the effort to look smarter at work. Great womens accessories, whether a designer belt or something more affordable but still stunning quality and design, is always going to help achieve that professional image.
